Somedays I hang around in the house. I like to go barefoot and walk on the cool wood floor in the kitchen and wear something soft and light. I play with soft wool and smooth, clean fabric and watch Martha in the morning. I'll make a light organic lunch to share with the kids, wipe Tucker's nose smudges off the front window, and enjoy the breeze that blows through the glass doors from the lake down the hill.
Yesterday was not one of those days. It was the other kind of day that I love. I got dirty and busted up my fingers and smelled like a combination of manure, goat, and dirt by the end of the day.
The girls and I went to the farmer's market and bought veggies to eat, herbs to plant, and a few early plants for the buckets on the deck. And some pull-apart sticky buns. Tater even got her first pair of Tater-sized gardening gloves.
Mac Daddy worked from home... if that's what ya want to call it. He also decided it was time to get a tiller that fits the new tractor. It must have been a good day because we accidentally stumbled across a guy who wanted to sell an older-heavy-as-hell-will-dig-a-trench-to-China tiller that fits our PTO and was the right price. Its big and ugly but dang does it turn some earth!
I figured that since I was already dirty I may as well trim hooves, too. Check out how big last year's babies are... remember the ones that were in the house for weeks last spring...
Poor Zeke has no idea that he is supposed to be a big pushy Toggenburg. He's just an overgrown baby and we love him dearly. Speaking of overgrown babies...
And the Goosers are far from small and fluffy anymore. They are all grown and white and gorgeous... even if they are nasty just like geese always are. They've started laying so they've become a bit territorial.
The new babies are doing very well. Elmer is growing me some nice fluffy wool and loves to have his face rubbed...
Mr. Pickles is just as funny as his name. He trots around and does bunny hops and flings his head around... baby goats are a hoot. Here's a perfect view of his ears that we fell in love with...
See, he's a Nubian-Toggenburg cross. One has long ears that hang straight down and the other has ears that stand straight up. He's somewhere in the middle. We are absolutely sure he will take flight one day.
An Amish gentleman that we know will be coming to add onto our fence sometime in the next few weeks. He sets posts with 2 huge work horses and a steam powered post setter. Its way cool.
So I guess what I'm say'in is that the sun has gotten the better of us and there's been no sewing or knitting or editing. There are plots to till and herbs to set and decisions to be made on the varieties of tomatoes to plant. There are goatie faces to rub and wooly heads to kiss and the rest will have to wait.
Our little family is growing and changing... both the humans and the critters. I still can't believe I'm lucky enough to have this life and I don't want to miss a moment of it.
I'll get to the other stuff here and there over the weekend... in between walks at the lake and goat brushing. Have yourself a wonderful weekend. I hope the sun is shining where you are.

What wonderful photos! Glad life is good for you and glad you posted about it - very uplifting to read!
