The other day somebody said "It doesn't snow in Pennsylvania anymore". I think he was right.
It may be pretty but the ice is cold and it sure isn't snow. I'm not much of a fan of snow but last winter looked a lot like this winter... ice, frozen rain, frozen slop, more ice. What I wouldn't give for about 4 feet of fluffy stuff!
When we moved back here, back home, right before last winter we had plans to hike to the lake in the snow and look for bunny trails and sled down the big hill by the dam. All we've really done is salted the front walk.
At least I got my wish for today... Mac Daddy worked from home. I'm grateful that he's able to do so when the weather is bad. When he works from home he really does work. Actually, its no fun at all because he gets all professional and barks at the kids if he's on a conference call and they get too noisy and he's always at my our desk so I feel like I get in his way just to check my email. But its a comfort to me to not have to think of him out on the highway trying to get home safely after work with all the ice and idiots.
See, this month its been 7 years for me and him. (I'm about to get sentimental so turn your head if it makes you queasy...)
Mac Daddy was the first guy to ever stick around for more than 5 years. The first one managed to give me kids #1 and #2 right after high school but we were young and stupid so before the 5th year came he had gone. Well, really, we aren't very young anymore but he's still stupid so I like to think it was more one of us than both of us all along.
J gave me kid #3 and took care of kids #1 and #2. Added a house, a dog, and a fenced in yard to the mix then was taken from us much too soon. Before 5 years.
So then Mac Daddy came along and gave me kid #4 (you'd think I'd have figured out what caused that by now). He took on all the other kids and the dog and we bought a new house far away from the country.
By the time year 5 rolled around I was convinced that he would vanish. Maybe in a terrible accident, maybe a meteor would hit him. Maybe he would burst into flames or choke on his Corn Flakes. I actually refused to acknowledge our 5th anniversary. I guess I thought I'd jinx something. Him being him, he didn't say a word about it, because he knows me so well.
Year 6 moved us back to the country... back home. Believe it or not we live just a few miles past my old house were I lived with J. I drive past it almost every day and sometimes people ask me if it bothers me. Really, I'm just glad to be home and so are the kids. Mac Daddy has carved himself a niche here, too. Its good to be close to extended family again.
So we added some goats and geese and chickens and all other manner of things. A new barn, a new tractor.
Now year 7 is here. I feel a lot better about it but still hold my breath. I've been trying to loosen up a bit and have been telling Mac Daddy I'm gonna come down with some sort of 7 Year Itch any moment now.
Anyway, go kiss somebody special.
Here's some pics for the weather man...
This post is really sweet-thank you for sharing your story. Here is to another seven years!

What a lovely post. Hopefully your 7 year itch does not result in Baby 5 or maybe that would be a good thing!
Please more pictures of the dear wee goats - They so make my day.

I just got teary reading this! Beautiful story, and I've got my money on you two hitting not just 10 years, but 50!
The ice pictures are lovely. I'm just a couple dozen miles east of you, near Philly, and we haven't even gotten the ice. Just danged c-o-l-d rain. Rain, Rain, rain. Then, mud. I really want some snow!

I just stumbled upon your blog via Linaloo ... beautiful pictures and story. Every princess has kissed a few frogs before she finds her prince ... I'd say you found your knight in shining armor!

I don't like this icy junk either. I would rather shovel 4 feet of snow than chip away at ice. (Although, with 4 feet of snow, maybe I'd just hibernate.)
Beautiful pics.
