No, not me... the weather!
Seems we had our first measurable snow fall over night and its continuing to add up a little at a time. The weather man says its just a band moving across the state and that it'll all be gone and melted by the weekend.
The last few days have been a bit grey and dreary but the sudden snow fall has sparked something in the kids... that same little magic sparkle that happens every year around this time. The first visions of the holidays... which seem not too real are suddenly solidified by the appearance of cold fluffy flakes.
Before I knew what was going on there were new holiday lists posted on the refrigerator and conversations about cookies and trees and sleds and mittens.
I feel exceptionally lucky to live in an area where there are clear cut seasonal changes. Looking forward to the shift and change of an entire world... it really is so huge to think about. To witness the transformation not only of the mountains behind us but of the people in the house and how the household actually functions from day to day.
The fluttering of the snow has brought with it the fluttering of colored paper and glue sticks and glitter and string. Thoughts shift from actually going outside to just watching outside from inside where its warm and cozy. Like a family of bears who have decided to stay inside all winter but not sleep. Hunkering down with hot soup, warm biscuits, and paper crafts.
I know that today is a single day and that before long this snow will be gone and it will just be cold and wet out. The next snows will bring sledding and shoveling and wet feet and cold noses. But for today at least there's a sense of coming together around the table.
I'm not sure what it is or why it is... but I'll savor every last moment until it slips away. With the kids getting older and having so many different interests and personalities these moments are growing fewer and fewer.
Thank you to the seasons and to the snow for whatever magic it brings even just for this day.

AMEN! I never appreciated seasons until I lived without them for 7 months!
I still wish we got more snow in New Jersey, but I'll take the cold and the leaves changing and falling off at an appropriate time!

I just picked up the Wniter 2008 issue of Living Crafts and what do you think I saw?
Why 2 new children's patterns from YOU!
Of course I HAD to buy it right then and there. :)
Now, I just need to finish up my Christmas projects....
